Biba Turban Blue
The original photograph of this headshot was taken for a series of pictures I took of the new Biba store, when it opened in High Street Kensington at the beginning of the seventies. Barbara Hulanicki (Biba) and her husband Fitz were personal friends, so I was able to get exclusive pictures of the store before it opened. Barbara had designed special clothes for Twiggy (my model) for the session. Incidentally, it was the 4th location for Bibaís. They had started along the road, just off Kensington High Street, in a converted chemist shop (I hope my memory is correct, but I donít think it was a butcherís or somesuch). They then grew larger and moved to Church Street, Kensington. Bibaís fashion house really took off then, and Barbara was now doing fabulous make-up as well as clothing. They then moved to a proper store in Ken High Street, because the company was doing so well. The 4th and last move was to the enormous Derry & Tomís Art Deco store across the road.
My complete set of the Biba pictures can be found in the archives of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
